It has been another long delay in posting. Need to get an additional computer as the fight for time to post on each of our blogs is getting  silly. With work, workouts, the drive in and out back home, cooking food and just getting some downtime does leave either my wife or myself with much time to post. This post is being written after midnight and I get up at 6am for work, most nights we do not get home till 8pm so you can see the issue.

However I would not change where I live as in the summer it is usually 7-10 degrees C warmer than in town and the view along the river is postcard like.

Well enough of the reasons for not posting and blah, blah, blah.

The last few weeks at the gym have been more focused with our workouts. The owner, Mike, has changed the routine to include more basic movements more often. I think it is great as we need to focus on core training. Things like squats, box jumps, burpees, snatches, rope jumping, etc., are what crossfit is about. While we have been doing some of these, we sometimes forget that other movements are required.

Today for exmaple we worked on the three presses, the press, the push press and the push jerk. Yesterday the workout was a Body Weight one with pullups and burpees. While these do not sound that tough, anyone who has done either of them can attest that they are not fun when they consist of 50-35-20 of each.

The previous week was a killer in that between the running, wall balls, box jumps, push ups, GHD situps, deadlifts and thrusters we were all feeling pretty bagged. As one person said, “you know it is tough week when people just come in to stretch”. I did not do the Friday workout as I could not have completed it as my arms and legs were shot.

The good news is that through all of this I have put up some new personal records for timed workouts, weighted work and just basic improvement. Lately, no make that just this week I decided I needed to start incorporating a mobility day once a week as one of the problems I have is with shoulder mobility. There is nothing wrong with them, it is just that lack of exercise until now meant that the range of motion I have currently have is hampering some movements.

Coming up in August the gym has entered a team in the charity Dragon Boat fund raising event and I have joined two other members in the Atlantic Hopper Event in Moncton NB on July 23rd.

We can always use new people to watch us and see that it is not your usual gym and that anyone can do this you just need to want to.  I leave you this quotation from Theodore Roosevelt from his The Man in the Arena speech:
